AUSTIN, Texas — How many 9-year-old kids can say that they have a Rubik’s Cube world record? The holder of the World Records India title of ‘Youngest Cuber to Solve 3x3x3 Blindfolded” can! Vyom Sharma, a 4th-Grade student at Harmony School of Endeavor – Austin (HSEnd), began his journey at 4 years old and reached his current pinnacle of success in 2021 as an 8-year-old champion cuber. This school year, he began mentoring other student cubers at HSEnd.
“At 4 years old, his grandmother gifted him a 2x2 Rubik’s Cube. At 5 years old, he joined a Rubik’s Cube club in our community and learned how to solve various types of cubes,” explained his parents, Preeti and Ashutosh Sharma. “Little did we know, his curiosity would turn into a passion.”

The pandemic gave Vyom plenty of time to practice. His drive and determination lead to enlisting a cube coach to work with him virtually to learn various types of Rubik’s Cubes. With Vyom’s passion in tow, his coach began working with him on solving a 3x3x3 blindfolded. Within a few months, he was ready to attempt a 2021 world record.
On April 19, 2021, Vyom successfully solved a 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube blindfolded in 14 minutes and 5 seconds in the presence of a World Cube Association delegate.
“I love solving puzzles and solving Rubik's Cube is similar to solving a puzzle. It's all about applying the right algorithm for the right cube,” Vyom replied when asked why he likes solving Rubik’s Cubes. “I have 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 7x7, Pyraminx, Mirror, and Skewb. My latest additions are 'Square-1' and 'Clock' puzzles which I am still learning.”
Wanting to share his love of cubing with others, this year, Vyom worked with his parents and school leaders to start a Rubik’s Cube club at HSEnd. Vyom volunteers each Tuesday after school to mentor 3rd-, 4th- and 5th-Grade students to learn different types of cubes.
“Even before holding the record, Vyom loved to guide and mentor his family and friends to solve different types of cubes. He always wanted to have his own club where he and his friends could assist and mentor each other in solving various kinds of cubes,” his parents explained. “He's living up to his dreams.”
