The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) is one of the largest subspecialty medical societies in anesthesiology with more than 5,000 members in 66 countries on 6 continents.

The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine was officially "re-founded" in 1975, led by Alon P. Winnie, MD, who had a dream of a society devoted to teaching regional anesthesia. (An earlier group of the same name was founded in 1923 as a tribute to Gaston Labat.)

Regional anesthesia makes a specific part of the body numb to relieve pain or allow surgical procedures to be done. Types of regional anesthesia include spinal anesthesia (also called subarachnoid block), epidural anesthesia, and nerve blocks.

Does regional anesthesia put you to sleep? ›

Sedation, often used for minimally invasive surgery, blocks pain and causes sleepiness, but doesn't put you to sleep. Regional anesthesia, such as an epidural or a nerve block, numbs a large part of the body while you remain awake. Doctors often use regional anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

Two of the most frequently used are spinal anesthesia and epidural anesthesia, which are produced by injections made with great exactness in the appropriate areas of the back. They are frequently preferred for management of pain during childbirth and after abdominal or chest surgery.

ASRA's guidelines recommend a normal INR (i.e. ≤1.1), but state that administration of the drug with a neuraxial catheter in place is acceptable with caution (e.g. neurological observations of sensory and motor function), where the INR is 1.5–3.0.

Response/Recommendation: Prior to spine surgery, low dose-aspirin (LD-ASA) (81 mg – 500 mg) used for primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention, can be stopped for one to three days. For ASA doses > 1 g per day, ASA should be stopped for at least seven days prior to surgery.

Night of the Masquerade

The first night of the last masquerade, concurrent with the presumed murder of Count Lucio, was the backdrop to the Apprentice's revival at the hands of Asra. He brokered a deal, presumably with the Magician, to bring them back to life in exchange for part of his heart.

Faust is Asra's familiar. She's a friendly and sneaky snake who enjoys being pet and is very fond of Asra and the Apprentice. During Asra's route it is revealed that Faust can communicate telepathically with people who have a strong bond with her, although she's only able to "speak" using one-word sentences.

Asra's romance with the MC ended when he congratulated Nadia and MC before they entered the Realms. He's accepted it and moved on. He's comfortable with Muriel and they're very close.

Asra appears to come to Muriel when he needs help. Notably, during Muriel's route, Asra comes to Muriel first when he thinks the Apprentice has been hurt. In Nadia's Upright Ending, Muriel and Asra are shown to have developed a romantic relationship.
