Should I keep the Ancient Seed Stardew? ›

The only productive use of the first Ancient Seed artifact found is to donate it to the Museum. The item contributes to the total count of Museum donations. Gunther will reward the player with one pack of plantable Ancient Seeds and the recipe to craft any further Ancient Seed artifacts into more seeds.

The Ancient Seed is an Artifact that can be found by digging up an Artifact Spot in Cindersap Forest or the Mountains (including the Quarry), or obtained inside Fishing Treasure Chests and Artifact Troves. It is also a rare drop from Bugs, Grubs, Cave Flies, Mutant Flies, and Mutant Grubs (0.5%).

It has a 1% chance of spawning from artifact spots in Cindersap Forest or The Mountain. (The dirt path in front of Marnie's is the most common area where artifact spots spawn in Cindersap). It has a 0.5% chance of being dropped by insects (Bug, Cave Fly, Grub, Mutant Fly, and Mutant Grub).

Whenever the Seed Maker is used with any crop other than Ancient Fruit, there is also a very small chance (0.5%) to obtain 1-3 Ancient Seeds instead of the crop's seeds. Once you donate an Ancient Seed artifact to the Museum, you can claim a packet of Ancient Seeds from Gunther as a reward.

Ancient Seeds can be planted in the Greenhouse. Ancient Seeds can be deconstructed to make an Ancient Seed artifact using a Deconstructor. This is useful if the player has a packet of Ancient Seeds available but does not yet have the artifact donated to the Museum.

To get Ancient Seed, talk to the Traveling Merchant. She can sell you the seed pack for 100 to 1,000g. Other ways to find Ancient Seeds include donating the seed's Artifact to the Museum and putting Ancient Fruit in the Seed Maker.

To spawn this item using an animal's name, visit Marnie's Ranch, speak to Marnie and purchase an animal (we recommend a chicken as it is cheapest). Name the animal [499] and press OK. You will then receive the ancient seeds item.

Once players have obtained ancient seeds viable for planting, they can go ahead and plant it during any season but Winter.
