The first recipes for cheesecake date back to ancient Greece. Athletes at the first Olmpic Games were served small servings of cheesecake. The most popular version of cheesecake is the New York style made with cream cheese, eggs, cream, sugar and graham cracker crust. Some like fruit toppings on it - most people like it just plain.

There's always room for Jello
Jello is one of those brand names that has become synonymous with the product. Gelatin dessert is simple to make, easy to eat, virtually no clean-up. Kids love it. It's big in retirement homes too.

Apple Pie
Is there anything more American than apple pie? Problem is it wasn't invented here. The first apple pie was made in Europe around 1390 and immigrants brought their recipes with them to America.

Ice Cream
The Chinese were enjoying flavored ice as far back as 3000 BC. Marco Polo brought the idea back to Italy in the 1600's. The first recipe for ice cream in this country appeared in a cookbook "The New Art of Cookery" in 1792. It was for vanilla ice cream and by far vanilla is America's favorite flavor. Chocolate is a distant second.
