Admin abuse (2024)

Admin abuse is defined as the misuse or overuse of the admin commands and privileges either inside the group or the games. Admin abuse is one of the oldest concepts in Risk and is one of the most common reasons that staff members are demoted. Over time, the perception of admin abuse has changed, and behavior that would have been considered typical and even acceptable in early Risk could now be considered grounds for demotion or even banishment.

It can exist in a wide range of situations, such as demoting people without valid reasoning, voiding customs or roleplay without valid reasoning, or using admin commands to the detriment of other players in the server. NuunuuM created a guide on which in-game commands are classed as admin abuse.^[1] This guide was later revised by Clasicalistic on 24 October 2021.^[2]

Nuking[]

As of 2021, a more recent phenomenon has existed, commonly referred to as nuking, whereby high-ranking officials have at times deleted Riskord channels, destroyed or deleted commissions, messed with people's ranks en masse, or leaked group games. The exact reasons for these high-ranking "nukes" have ranged from simply wanting attention to the perpetrator not feeling as though they are being paid enough. The most significant example is the 14 October 2022 nuke.

Notable examples of admin abuse/nukes[]

As admin abuse can be fairly common among lower staff members and tends to be punished quickly, it is uncommon for an admin abuser to work their way up the ranks with ease. Nevertheless, Risk has seen many examples of admin abuse from the higher ranks.

• 2110ab4 and SirWelch, two Senior Administrators in 2015, purged all staff members and banned 21% of the early Risk player base.
• GeneralPetrovski was known for his use of then-acceptable fun commands as well as threatening to ban players whom he disagreed with.
• Castlemore was well-known for banning and demoting people for trivial reasons, leading to the "Castlemoreonic Wars" that defined two years of Risk history.
• Jewsiahh, the second Senator of the Participants, was demoted for force-resetting a server without a valid reason.
• Pavalineox, a Developer, was demoted for working a shadow ban on Castlemore into the scripts of every Risk game.
• A moderator, gmod200155, banned three Risk servers and was subsequently banished.
• In October 2021, Paxiflication purged every moderator with Blazer91111111 and admin abused in every group game including public. Quinnology, nuked the Riskord by deleting #general. Both were banished, however, Quinnology came back to Risk.
• On 28 December 2021, Werami222, much like Paxiflication, purged every Moderator & Administrator, admin abused in several group games, and deleted several channels in the Riskord, notably #admin-club. She also promoted Paxlification, Blazer, and Haryoski to Administrator and gave many individuals Moderator commands, wreaking havoc on Risk servers, mainly Customs.
• October Disaster: in October 2022, NuunuuM, the Director of Risk, deleted all channels in the Riskord, mass-banished thousands of players, and uncopylocked the Risk games. He was subsequently banned and the mess was restored by XenvoxSherman and elvir13, among others.
• DrHeal's Second Conspiracy: From December 31st, 2023 to January 28th, 2023, DrHeal again attempted to remove several high-ranking staff members to make way for his alt, eightah323, and other conspirators so that they could bring back NuunuuM into the Administration.
