The French have a way of making everything, even ordinary, mundane things, seem chic and exotic. Case in point: coffee. While most of the world is content to drink our coffee out of mugs, it’s common in France to drink café (and tea and hot chocolate) from a bowl. It’s so simple and yet so charming — there’s something almost nostalgic about grabbing a bowl with both hands.
Practically speaking, there are advantages, too. A bowl is (generally) bigger, which means more coffee and easier dipping for your croissant. Not to mention, drinking your coffee from a bowl also negates the need for those mugs. (Marie Kondo would approve).
Ready to give this French habit a try? It will add a bit of romance to your Monday (or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday) and while you could make do with any ol’ bowl, we have our eye on this pretty gingham number.
Handmade and hand-painted, these bowls come in five different colors — navy, light blue, red, green, and gray — and have a 10-karat-gold rim. This is definitely a splurge, but we can’t think of a nicer way to start our week.
