  • Yield: About 4-6 servings 1x

Description

No one will ever guess that this delicious chili was made with just 5 ingredients!

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 lb. ground beef or turkey*
  • 1 small white onion, diced
  • 3 (15 oz.) cans diced tomatoes with green chiles
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans beans, drained (black beans, kidney beans, a combo, or whatever you like)
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • (optional toppings: shredded cheese, chopped green onions, sour cream, cilantro, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a large stockpot, cook ground beef or turkey over medium-high heat until browned, stirring frequently. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked beef or turkey to a separate plate and set aside. Reserve 1 tablespoon of grease in the stockpot, and discard the rest.
  2. Add the onion to the stockpot and saute for 4-5 minutes, or until soft.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and the cooked beef or turkey to the stockpot, and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately, garnished with optional toppings if desired. Or, store in a sealed container for up to 3 days.

Notes

*If using ground turkey, you will need to heat a tablespoon of olive oil beforehand to help cook and brown the turkey, and then add an additional tablespoon of oil to cook the onion.

**You can also make this in the slow cooker. You just need to brown your meat on the stove and drain it before adding the meat to your slow cooker. Then slow cook the chili on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

So so good! But I wanted to make it vegetarian! I swapped out ground beef with a can of corn. And I only put two cans of tomatoes in. I wonder how many calories are in a serving.

I am making this lovely, easy recipe again today because it turned out so darn good last time. I am a chili freak and when I get my cravings I have got to make some nice ground beef chili! This recipe turns out pretty tremendous flavor for the amount of ingredients and the ease of throwing it together. My hubs couldn’t believe how tasty this was with so few ingredients. I have done chili cook-offs at work with my much more complicated recipe but some days you just want a tasty bowl of chili that you haven’t slaved over for half a day. This fits the bill!!

The chili was absolutely amazing and very yummy indeed…

  4. So easy and yummy! This is my new go to for chili, rather than taking hours with crockpot! I added a touch of garlic and pepper. So good, whole family loves! Thanks!

Easy and delicious! Thanks for sharing.

  6. What’s really great about this recipe is that you can add more seasoning, leave out the beans, add more tomato. etc.. You can customize it however you like.

  7. I made the 5 ingredient chili today and loved it! Very simple and fast!! Great flavor and the toppings made it pop! Thanks for sharing your recipes. =)

made this chili its great but i can never get that nice red sauce that yours looks like in the pics

    • The red color comes from the Chili Powder he used. That’s the key!! Either make your own chili powder or find a really good one – which is difficult to do. I’m still testing different ones.

  9. I made this over a year ago. My wife keeps begging me to make it over and over. I gave her the Recipe, and she wouldn’t follow it. She tells people Im a great cook. I tell her, I’m a good recipe reader and follower. This is great, the only thing, after the first time making it, NOT a big fan of Cilantro. I just dont care for the taste. But everything else was Perfect. Thanks.

  10. This has become my go to chili recipe. Thank you for sharing. I sub Impossible ground “meat” for beef/turkey and it comes out great. And I cook the chili for about 30 min to get the best consistency/flavor. Also, I don’t drain the beans…I did that once and lost a layer of depth of flavor.

    OMG YOU FORGOT THE CUMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I make this chili all the time
Easy weekday dinner for sure and so customizable to whatever you want

  13. This was a big hit with my family! I love how you could add or change it up to vary flavors but on its own it’s still delicious. We used black and pinto beans. Yum!

  14. Do I drain the beans and tomatoes from their cans before putting it in?

i prefer stewed tomatoes in chili. that is ok? also i would add spices.

  16. I’ve been making this recipe for years. I usually double it to have leftovers. I also add more chili powder and I add in brown sugar. It’s been a family favorite! I’ve made it both on the stove and in the slow cooker. It’s better in the slow cooker (in my opinion), but still great either way.

Made this recipe today when I realized way to late that I didn’t have all I needed for tacos or burgers. Needed a quick ground beef recipe woth minimal ingredients and this fit the bill perfectly! Had great taste i did simmer it a bit longer and added a bit more chili powder but still for the amount of ingredients and time a perfect go to recipe! Will for sure make it again!

Love this Chili 🌶️ my guys love it fast and easy and we have plenty for lunches

  19. The chili is simmering on the stove as I type. We restrict salt as much as possible and my hubby is not a fan of spicy food. I cut back on the chili powder (as I’m a good wife) and I used leftover chuck roast as it was on hand. Oh, and I used dark kidney and black beans :D

The first taste was good and can’t wait to eat a bowl full. Thank you for providing an easy, tasty chili recipe.

i would add garlic to it. sounds great though

  21. It’s basically just ground beef and tomatoes with almost no liquid. I cut the chili powder in half and it was still so spicy. My kids and I couldn’t eat it even after adding a ton of cheese and sour cream.

This is a great recipe. When I first made it I didn’t have the right ingredients for it so I used Rotel and diced tomatoes and just a drop or two of hot sauce. It’s just great and I cook it often still using Rotel! It’s an easy but very tasty recipe. Thank you for sharing and showing us it doesn’t take 14 ingredients and an afternoon to make good chili !!

THIS is My go-to recipe for chili, but I DO make some adjustments.. I add a dash (5-6 drops) of worchestershire sauce, some season all and seasoned salt per side to the ground beef before beginning to break it up.. I only use half a white onion, a dash (1/8 tbsp) garlic powder and also add 2-3 cups of beef broth to the recipe.. I also add 1/2 to 1/8 teaspoon (just a dash) of mild taco seasoning.. These REALLY magnify and merge the flavors perfectly.. Thank you SOOOO much for giving Me a template to use to build My own version of chili that suits My tastes perfectly!!

  24. This was great! I added a little bit more chili powder + added a bit of crushed red pepper, a pinch of cinnamon and a little minced garlic. This was great when I was in a hurry tonight – came together super fast!

Ingredients:

  1. Ground Beef or Turkey (1 lb.): The choice between ground beef or turkey provides flexibility for personal preference or dietary restrictions.

  2. White Onion (1 small, diced): Adds a savory and aromatic base to the chili.

  3. Canned Diced Tomatoes with Green Chiles (3 cans, 15 oz. each): Provides the essential tomato base with a hint of spiciness from green chiles.

  4. Canned Beans (2 cans, 15 oz. each, drained): Offers a protein and fiber boost; the recipe suggests options like black beans, kidney beans, or a combination.

  5. Chili Powder (2 Tbsp., optional toppings): The primary seasoning that imparts the characteristic chili flavor. Toppings such as shredded cheese, chopped green onions, sour cream, and cilantro are optional but enhance the final presentation and taste.

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Cooking Ground Beef or Turkey: Browning the meat over medium-high heat and then setting it aside ensures a flavorful base for the chili.

  2. Sauteed Onion: Softening the diced white onion in the remaining grease adds aromatic complexity to the dish.

  3. Combining Ingredients: Bringing back the cooked meat and adding diced tomatoes with green chiles and drained beans to the stockpot.

  4. Seasoning and Simmering: Adding chili powder and bringing the mixture to a boil before reducing the heat to simmer for 10 minutes allows the flavors to meld.

  5. Optional Toppings: The recipe suggests garnishing the chili with toppings like shredded cheese, green onions, sour cream, or cilantro.

Additional Notes:

  • For ground turkey, pre-heating olive oil is recommended to aid in cooking and browning.
  • The recipe is adaptable for a slow cooker, requiring browning of meat on the stove before transferring to the slow cooker for an extended cooking period.

The provided comments from individuals who have tried the recipe further reinforce its popularity and success, with many praising its simplicity, taste, and adaptability. Some users share personal modifications, such as using plant-based "meat," adjusting spice levels, or adding extra ingredients like garlic or pepper.

In summary, this 5-Ingredient Easy Chili recipe is a testament to the beauty of simplicity in cooking, allowing for customization while delivering a delicious and quick chili experience.
